Mona Zillah is a multi-media conceptual artist based in Montpelier, Vermont. Through their art, they examine the margins of identity in a society that never considered them Asian enough or white enough, not queer enough yet failing as a woman, always an unwanted guest. Zillah’s work deals with observing moments or personal definitions of things/tropes we take for granted, and the identities of unwanted guests. They have a facility in a number of traditional mediums (painting, drawing, sculpture, film) and this enables each piece to include the materials or crafts that best supports the question, comment, or dialogue at the core of each piece. Zillah’s recent work have aimed to minimize the use of all fossil fuel derived products.
