Greetings!
I will be sharing my current art project in this space, so please visit (at the Frog House in person and here) as often as you like!
This art piece is entitled – Expressions and Interpretations of the North Country: Garments of the Past Knit into the Future.
When TAUNY approached me about applying for an art grant, I was truly surprised and honoured. I had just arrived to the North Country and not even been here a year! I was familiar with TAUNY, it being one of the first places I stopped into when we first arrived. Part of choosing the North Country was researching the area, what sort of places, groups, favourite locations were we looking for in a new region? The North Country ticked most of our boxes! And so we made the leap…or really, a very long drive.
One often feels uncertainty when moving to a new place. We have our own identity and culture and, no matter how good the move, the new place has its own existing identities and ways of doing things.
Exploring these feelings and thoughts, I could feel a project growing…from my own look back into my lost and known culture plus finding where I fit in, in my new surroundings and community.
One of my first stops in beginning my North Country journey was, of course, the local knitting group. I was surprised and pleased by the immediate warm and friendly welcome. Later, one of the other newer members said the same thing – when you walk through the doors, you realise you are begin included in something, something special!
This project is a reciprocation of the warm welcome I received, a celebration of community.
